Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2015, the Chinese Government agreed to fund a 300-bed China-Pakistan friendship hospital at a cost of PKR 9.96 billion in Gwadar district, Balochistan province. This project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art medical facility in the port city of Gwadar. The hospital will be the first of its kind in Balochistan built on 68 acres of land comprised of 6 medical blocks. The hospital will have an outpatient department, an emergency department, an in-patient department, nursing and paramedical institutes, a medical college, a central laboratory, and other allied facilities. After completing a feasibility study (captured via Record ID#72695), the Chinese Government agreed to provide RMB 240 million of grant financing for the project. The total expected cost of the project is $100 million and it is being undertaken in three stages: the first stage was the construction of a 50-bed hospital, the second stage is an expansion to 150 beds, and the third stage involves a final expansion to 300 beds. Gansu Provincial Construction Investment (Holdings) Group Corporation is the contractor responsible for project implementation and its work is being overseen by the Gansu Provincial Construction Investment (Holdings) Group Corporation. A formal groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 16, 2019. However, civil works did not commence until November 2020. By January 2022, one out of six medical blocks (each 50 bedded) and 20% of the residential blocks were completed. The project was originally scheduled to reach completion in December 2022. A completion ceremony for the hospital was held on December 4, 2023.
