Description
On May 6, 2015, Ethiopia and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for their partnership on a project dubbed East Africa Information Super Highway (Chinese: 东非信息高速路), a project for cooperation between China and Africa in information and communication technology (ICT). The Chinese vice minister also signed the cooperation MoU for joint construction of Africa Information Super Highway. The MoU will enable the two countries to carry out joint activities under the framework of the Africa Information Super Highway for the East African region and beyond. On May 6, 2016, Liu Lihua, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Ethiopian Federation, Debrezion, and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two parties. In early July, 2018, the first transnational direct current transmission line project in East Africa - ± 500 kV Ethiopia - Kenya DC transmission line project successfully passed the project owner acceptance, marking the successful implementation of the project. The project is undertaken by the CEP (China electric power equipment and technology co. LTD) equipment company in the EPC mode, including 459 kilometers of 500 kV DC transmission lines. This project is likely to be a sub-project of the China-East Africa Joint Information Highway Project (#53339), which is expected to have a total investment of more than $10 billion USD and will be operated by phased investment construction.
