Project narrative

On August 8, 2014, the Chinese Government and the Government of Ghana signed a $1.5 million grant agreement for the Residential Solar Street Lights Project. This project involved the provision and installation 275 LED street lights for improved improved night lighting in Accra. Huawei Technologies was the contractor responsible for project implementation. As of August 1, 2014, 260 solar street lights had been put into use. The remaining 15 were expected to be put into use shortly thereafter. According to Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Energy, this project not only improved the visibility of roads at night, but also improved the safety of bus stops and night shift vehicles.
