Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On November 4, 2016, the opening ceremony for Chinese language classes for Kenyan diplomats in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was attended by Chinese Ambassador Liu Xianfa and other Chinese and Kenyan officials. The classes were organized by the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and provided by the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. The lessons come as a part of China and Kenya's efforts to enhance diplomatic relations and provide educational opportunities to strengthen government, economic, and cultural ties. The classes are designed to last four months and consist of 96 hours of language lessons, the recipients of which will include 30 diplomats and the director and ambassador of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The members who excel and earn good test scores in these classes will be provided the opportunity to study further in China. The project appears to be complete now, although its cost is unknown.

The Crs sector for this project was coded as other multisector because this project appears to target the education and government sectors. the project also appears to have both developmental and representational intent.
