Project narrative

On August 4, 2016, the Chinese government provided Malawi with an emergency food aid handover ceremony. China's Ambassador to Malawi, Wang Shiting, made the symbolic donation to Malawi President Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace in the capital, Lilongwe. He provided 6,585 tons of rice, which was shipped to Malawi in four batches. The first batch of 2,000 tons of rice was delivered on August 3, 2016. The second and third batches arrived on August 13, 2016. The final batch of rice was delivered on September 6, 2016. These batches of emergency food aid (worth RMB 60 million) were provided to address food shortages impacting 6.5 million starving Malawians, caused by a series of disasters in Malawi.
