The purpose of this project was to dispatch seven Chinese agricultural experts over a three year period to (a) the central laboratory of the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Algeria (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique d'Algérie or INRA or المعهد الوطني الجزائري للبحث الزراعي) in the capital city of Algiers, and (b) an INRAA experimental station in the town of Hmadna (El Hamadna) within the wilaya of Relizane. On September 15, 2016, the Chinese Ambassador to Algeria and Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries signed an RMB 16.03 million grant agreement for Phase 2 of Saline Farmland Improvement Project on behalf of their respective governments. The grant proceeds for this project were drawn from an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) that the two governments signed on June 26, 2013. The purpose of this project was to dispatch seven Chinese agricultural experts over a three year period to (a) the central laboratory of the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Algeria (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique d'Algérie or INRA or المعهد الوطني الجزائري للبحث الزراعي) in the capital city of Algiers, and (b) an INRAA experimental station in the town of Hmadna (El Hamadna or الحمادنة) within the wilaya of Relizane. It also involved the dispatching of eighteen experts and technicians for short-term visits to Algeria to advise and assist on issued related to saline farmland improvement. Shanxi International Economic & Technical Cooperative Co Ltd. is the contractor responsible for implementation.A project implementation agreement was signed on May 9, 2018. Project implementation subsequently commenced in July 2018 and it was expected to last until July 2021. The Chinese Government also funded Phase 1 of this project (captured in Record ID#31785).
