On March 21st, 2016, China agreed to provide grant assistance to Nepal for the construction of the Xiarwa boundary river bridge (斜尔瓦界河桥), located at Karnali River at Hilsa, Humla. The bridge will allow transportation between the Chinese border and Nepal's remote Karnali region. The bridge is 148.08 meters long. The national daily described it as a "lifeline to the region's economy". In 2017, the construction survey began. No information was found on the amount of grant, or if construction has begun.
