Project narrative

In 2011, the Government of Pakistan’s State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping asked the Chinese Government to help it establish a Next-Generation Geodetic Datum of Pakistan. This GIS mapping and surveying project is expected to encourage research and innovation in the areas of economy and society and its linkages would promote cooperation between science and technology, public institutions and government agencies. Then, on May 13, 2017, the Chinese Government and the Government of Pakistan signed letters of exchange for this project. The Chinese Government committed RMB 99.9 million of grant funding for this project. As of 2020, the project had entered the implementation stage. The Chinese Academy of Survey and Mapping is one of the organizations supporting the implementation of this project.
