Description

In October 2016, Bangladeshi company Meghna Group signed deals with Chinese state-owned Power Construction Corporation to produce 1,320 MW of electricity from two coal-fired power plants in Daudkandi in Comilla for $1.75 billion. Each plant would have a capacity of 660 MW. According to an October 2016 Daily Star article, the project would have started in 2018. The September 2018 post by the Bangladesh Working Group on External Debt states that this project has not yet begun. The Power Construction Corporation of China attempted to find Chinese financing for this project, but as of September 2018, no funding had been allocated. A post from the Center for Media and Democracy claimed that the Chinese Government sent a proposal to fund the project to Bangladesh's Power Development Board, but no details on the specific funding organization, the funding form, or the value of the offer could be confirmed. This project should not be confused with the two other 660 MW coal power plants, located in Misarai, funded by Hangzhou Jinjiang Group, Hangzhou Zhengcai Holding Group and Jindun Energy Equipment (Hong Kong) (project ID #54312).

Additional details

This project's flow class assumes that the Chinese government will provide some funding, but it is unclear what form the funding will take.
