Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On September 13, 2014, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) signed an agreement on scientific cooperation with Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan on the construction of Tajik branch of the Dushanbe Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia, as an official NGO. The center was jointly built by CAS and the Tajik Academy of Sciences, and dealt with the ecological environment, geology, and physics. The opening ceremony of the center was held on August 29, 2016. The main objective of the center is to "conduct fundamental and applied research in the field of natural Sciences". This center was the first joint scientific institution between Tajikistan and China.

Staff comments

1. The project is known in Chinese as "中国科学院中亚生态与环境研究中心塔吉克斯坦分中心". 2. According to the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia, CAS provided $2 million dollars in research equipment to joint laboratories in Central Asia, including a joint laboratory for geology and mineralogy in Tajikistan, likely referring to this project. However, if it's not clear if each lab received $2 million dollars in equipment, or if the combined value of equipment spread across the three labs was $2 million, so AidData has not coded a transaction amount.
