Description
On August 24, 2012, Hanban and India Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on teaching Chinese in India. Xu Lin (许琳), the director of Hanban and chief officer of Confucius Institute, and Subrahmanyam Jaishanker (苏杰生), India Ambassador of India signed the paperwork in Embassy of India in China. Hanban agreed to support India in training 300 Chinese teachers, offer 100 annual scholarships for Indian teachers teaching Chinese to train in China, and provide assistance to establish the teaching of Chinese. In addition, CBSE decided to include Chinese in foreign language courses. It will start by establishing Chinese courses in 500 middle schools and expand to total 11,500 middle schools in the future.
