Description

In February 2015, the Chinese Government reportedly pledged to finance the construction a dam on the Kunar River in Kunar Province. This 1,500MW hydroelectric power plant will reportedly be jointly managed by Afghanistan and Pakistan and will supply energy to both countries. However, the absence of a water sharing treaty between China and Afghanistan and disagreements over the financing of this project have led to delays. Some studies estimated that the project will cost around $1.6 billion.
