Description

According to Maldivian Deputy Economic Minister Abdullah Mohammed, China will assist Maldives to establish a national testing lab, in order to examine the quality of import products from China. The establishment of this "Standards and Metrology" by China was a component of the Free Trade Agreement signed by the two countries on December 7, 2017. In November 2018, Maldives announced plans to back out of the previously signed Free Trade Agreement, although as of April 2019 there are no further updates related to Maldives pulling out of the FTA or the establishment of this testing lab.
