Description
On March 8, 2007, Cairo University and Hanban signed the 'Agreement on Cooperation in the Construction of Confucius Institutes', establishing the Cairo University Confucius Institute. The institute was established for the purpose of introducing Egyptian students to Chinese language and culture as well as deepening ties between Egypt and China. The Institute offers Chinese language classes, language proficiency tests, classes on Chinese culture, and opportunities to participate in edifying competitions. On November 29, 2007, Cairo University and Peking University signed an implementation agreement to establish the institute. On the same day the two universities held a formal opening ceremony for the new Institute on the Cairo University's campus in Cairo, Egypt. Later, on March 18, 2008, the Confucius Institute became operational by enrolling students and offering lectures in Taha Hussein Hall of the Faculty of Arts of Cairo University (كلية الاداب - جامعة القاهرة). Then, in March 2016, the foundation of a new Confucius Institute building was laid on the campus of Cairo University. The construction of the building was completed on April 21, 2018 (see Project ID#59460).
