Description

On July 18, 2014, during Chinese president Xi Jinping's visit to Argentina, an agreement was signed for Chinese financing of the purchase of 11 vessels for 423 million USD. The vessels are specifically to be used to "modernize and equip" the Argentine government to better navigate its inland rivers. It was also reported that a MoU for the purchase of 35 ships was signed in the same time period for 423 million USD (Memorándum de financiamiento para 35 barcos incluidos dragas). It is unclear if the two are referring to the same project. The recipient is the government of Argentina
