Full Description

Project narrative

According to internal records that the Government of Grenada shared with AidData in June 2018, the Chinese Government provided a $8,177 grant to the Government of Grenada in 2014 to support the Tri-centennial Park Project. The Tri-centennial Park is a recreational park in St. George and a popular tourist attraction. The plans for the open-air park include building an amphitheatre to promote the arts and tourism as well as creating a 'Memorial Wall'.

Staff comments

1. The main source (see Dropbox link) was provided to AidData by a Ministry of Finance official in Grenada. 2. This grant commitment should not confused with Record ID#54768, which captures a grant for the same park at a different time and for a different amount. 3. The project appears to be broken up into two phases: Phase I and Phase II. Details of the different phases could not be found, but in the Grenada Budget Speech for 2017 the spending details for Phase II were identified and in the 'explanation' column 'Kazakhstan' was listed, presumably as the provider of some of the funding. The Chinese government grants were not listed.
