Project narrative

On November 23rd, 2008, China officially started a Chinese language program at the Polytechnic Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC) in the Dominican Republic. Li Junfen and volunteers from the National Chinese International Promotion Office of the Ministry of Education of China arrived in the Dominican Republic. The volunteers established language classes at the International Language Center at INTEC, and taught in the Chinese Culture School in “Chinatown.” They also provided consultation and teacher training to the Chinese School of the “Overseas Chinese Association." The students attending the language training included children of Chinese immigrants and Dominican citizens. According to the Foreign Ministry article, the volunteers opened five Chinese classes following their arrival, with a total of 60 students.
