Lancaster House is designed to provide temporary accommodation to the elderly and people affected by disasters. Chinese Ambassador Wang Ke spoke at the handover ceremony where she expressed support for such social programs. The renovations that took place, funded in large part by this grant, included an upgrade of the entire plumbing system; the installation of protective bars at all windows on the upper level of the building; the repair and painting of the window hoods; the replacement of guttering; the cleaning and painting of the roof; and the installation of an entrance gate. On June 15, 2017, the renovations were complete and a re-opening ceremony for the house took place. The renovation will allow the house to accommodate three families
