Project narrative

On January 19, 2019, Mrs. Duan Niyan, the wife of China's representative in the Dominican Republic, was invited to attend a donation of toys for children victims of gender-based violence organized by the Ministry of Women. Minister Camilo and Mayor Rodriguez attended the event and distributed toys to more than 200 children. The purpose of the donation was to show that "China attaches great importance to promoting gender equality and the protection of women and children's rights" (Chinese Embassy to Dominican Republic), as they work to cooperate with the Dominican Republic on Women's issues. The grant for the toys was funded by an unknown Chinese government institution, and the total cost of the toys is unknown. The purpose of the donation was a show of support for the children of the Dominican Republic from the Chinese government.
