Project narrative

Following the success of Phase I of the Technical Cooperation of Sports Project in 2016 (see Record ID#55012), the governments of China and Uruguay negotiated in 2017 through the Uruguayan Agency of International Cooperation (AUCI) a Phase II of this project that would span the years 2018-2020. According to an article from the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI), the amount paid by the Government of China for the completion of this second phase is 52 million CNY (around 8 million USD). The agreement states that at the beginning of each year a delegation of more than 117 athletes and coaches may travel to China for a period of 3 months. And then, in the middle of the year, may receive up to 7 Chinese trainers who will work in the country for a month. In 2018, 80 people traveled to improve their performance among athletes (63), coaches (16) and a head of delegation. Of the 63 athletes, 36 are girls / women and 27 are boys. And 13 of them are all under 18 / born in this century. In June of that year, two Chinese trainers settled in Uruguay for a month to continue the training process. In January 30th, 2019, China handed over sports equipment to Uruguay as a part of the Technical Cooperation of Sports Project. The donation included 4114 pieces of equipment in total, covering 10 disciplines ( table tennis, taekwondo, gymnastics, judo, weightlifting, athletics, swimming, basketball, football and handball). In February 2019, China offered training for Uruguay athletes and coaches as part of the technical support for sports. In 2019, 137 athletes and coaches would be trained. Phase I of the Technical Cooperation of Sports Project is recorded in Record ID#55012.
