Description

On October 24, 2016, China's Ministry of National Defense signed an agreement with the Ministry of National Defense of Uruguay in which the Chinese side committed to the provision of equipment worth about $7.5 million USD to Uruguay. Under these agreements, Uruguay was to receive $2.5 million USD of equipment in mid-January 2017, and another $5 million USD by the end of 2017. On February 2, 2017, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense provided equipment worth $2.5 million USD. The equipment consisted of 10 winter tents for 12 people, 400 summer tents for 20 people, 2,000 field cots, seven field kitchens, 14 electric power generators, seven water trailers, and four command posts/mobile housing vehicles that could serve as ambulance. The equipment was to be delivered to each of the 4 National Army divisions. The equipment was expected to help in emergencies ("Donación de la República Popular China al MDN"). The remaining $5 million USD of equipment was handed over in a ceremony on March 23, 2018. The equipment includes 10 off-road ambulances, six 42-seat buses, three motor graders, 10 loaders, four bulldozers, and one-year's worth of spare parts. The equipment was destined for use as prison guard transportation and road work equipment by the National Army of Uruguay.
