Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On August 28, 2016, China donated teaching equipment to Technological University of Uruguay (Universidad Tecnológica del Uruguay, or UTEC). The donation, valued at 23.5 million CNY (about 3.5 million USD), included equipment for mechatronics and for chemistry and biology laboratories, including a spectrum analyzer, digital oscilloscopes, training systems in industrial automatisms of varied specialties, computerized manufacturing systems, sensors and an educational robot arm. The materials also included notebooks, tablets, interactive whiteboards, routers and a system of videoconferencing, among others. The computer materials for educational use were distributed among the five teaching centers of UTEC, while the larger equipment was installed in the Regional Technological Institute (ITR) Southwest, located in Fray Bentos, where the specialization of Technologist in Mechatronics is offered. The ITR was Built in the Industrial Landscape (el Paisaje Industrial) and has a capacity for two thousand students. According to the UTEC website, this project was in the framework of an economic and technical cooperation agreement signed between China and Uruguay in 2006.
