Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On December 19, 2018, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) providing a total of USD 7 million in grant funding to the Government of Uruguay for multiple purposes. The Chinese Ambassador to Uruguay, Wang Gang, told reporters that the funds from this ETCA will be allocated in the following ways: 1) USD 4 million for the current cooperation funds between Uruguay and China (captured via Record ID#55008) 2) USD 3 million for purchasing equipment for six theaters (captured via Record ID#68907)

Staff comments

1. No sources explicitly indicate that this is a grant. However, the theater equipment was clearly a donation so AidData assumes the entire ETCA was also a donation. 2. No sources explicitly state that the value of the first unallocated portion is worth USD 4 million. However, other sources are clear that the theater equipment was worth USD 3 million, so AidData assumes the remaining USD 4 million went towards the first unallocated portion.
