Description
In 2015, during a visit to Pakistan, President Xi Jinping announced that China would build no less than 50 girls schools in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). On 13 August 2017, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce signed an exchange of letters committing a RMB 99.97 million grant for the FATA Schools Construction Project. On August 9, 2018, representatives of the Chinese Government and Government of Pakistan signed meeting minutes marking the official launch of the FATA Schools Construction Project. China Railway 17th Bureau Survey and Design Institute provided the work plans and China Railway 17th Bureau is the implementing contractor. On 19 April 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony took place in Peshawar marking the start of construction. Works were supposed to last 24 months.
