Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In April 2004, the Government of Lesotho received an RMB 20 million grant from the Chinese Government in the form of an ETCA (captured in #55532). Some of these funds were used to to facilitate the acquisition of 2,000 tons of yellow maize in response to a drought-induced famine across Lesotho, which began in 2002 and lasted until 2004. Then, on June 24, 2004, a Chinese Embassy official signed a contract committing to supply the maize within two months. However, the maize was ultimately delivered on December 31, 2004. The Chinese Government also made maize donations in 2002 and 2003, which are captured in #55530 and #30598.
