Full Description

Project narrative

In 2017, the Chinese Government provided a grant to the Government of Eritrea for 2 MW Solar Power Plant Construction Project. The monetary value of the grant is unknown. The project involved the construction of a solar power (photovoltaic) plant to the east of the capital Asmara. The plant covers an area of 32-thousand square meters and it has a designed installed capacity of 2.1114 MW. Upon completion, it was expected to produce an average of 11-thousand kilowatt hours of electricity per day. The power generation project was expected to generate about 3.25 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, which could alleviate power generation shortages in Asmara and surrounding cities. China State Construction Corporation was the contractor responsible for implementation. The project officially commenced on November 24, 2017 and concluded on April 24, 2018. It passed completion acceptance on May 14, 2018.
