In 2002, the Chinese Government provided an RMB 40 million grant to the Government of the Central African Republic (CAR) for a Public Housing Project (100 Units). This project involved the construction of 100 public housing units in the town of Bimbo (on the outskirts of Bangui). The construction area covered 10,450 square meters and included 50 4-bedroom units and 50 3-bedroom units. Hainan Construction Engineering Corporation was the contractor responsible for implementation. Construction began on May 20, 2002 and the project was inspected on October 24, 2002. The project was officially completed and handed over to the CAR authorities on December 23, 2003.
