Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On May 7, 2018, the Chinese Government signed an unspecified agreement with the Central African Republic Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Handicrafts and the Informal Sector for the Barthélemy Boganda Sports Complex Rehabilitation Project in Bangui. It is unclear whether the Chinese Government is covering all or only a part of the CFA 7 billion total project cost. It is also unclear whether the Chinese Government ever formally pledged financing for this project. After the signing ceremony, the Chinese Embassy planned to launch a call for tenders to find Chinese companies to start the rehabilitation works. The Chinese company COMPLANT originally built the complex in 2006 (see Record ID#352). Stadium rehabilitation works consist of installing seats in the stands, completely redesigning the athletics track and the playing area, as well as updating the electronic and plumbing system. The rehabilitation project was scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2019.
