Description
On November 14, 2018, the Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Cape Verde and Cape Verde’s Minister of State signed a Protocol Agreement for China to Send Medical Teams to Work in Cape Verde (in Chinese: "中国派遣医疗队赴佛得角工作的议定书"). The agreement stipulated that from 2018-2020, a medical team from China -- the eighteenth sent to Cape Verde -- would provide services to Cape Verde. On December 17, 2018, Ambassador Du Xiaocong hosted a dinner at the Chinese Embassy in Cape Verde to welcome the medical team. Cape Verde’s Minister of Health Dorosario and the dean of Praia Central Hospital also attended this event. The medical team is comprised of eight members, including one anesthesiologist, three gynecologists and obstetricians, two surgeons, one orthopedic surgeon, and one interpreter. According to SAPO Noticias, the eighteenth medical team will compensate for the deficit of surgeons at Hospital Agostinho Neto in Praia, Cape Verde. This eighteenth medical team relieved the seventeenth Chinese medical team, whose arrival in Cape Verde is captured in the linked project #52961. This project was completed on February 17, 2021, when the 19th medical team arrived to Cabo Verde. China has been sending medical teams to Cape Verde every two years since 1984. Heilongjiang Province was originally responsible for sending the teams, but Sichuan became the dispatching province changed in February 1988.
