On December 4-5, 2015, at the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Johannesburg, the Chinese Government agreed to provided a grant to the Government of Zambia for the Satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages Project. A total of 500 villages from all 10 provinces of Zambia were selected for implementation, reportedly benefiting 1,500 public areas and 10,000 households. The project involved the installation of a free solar projection TV system and a solar digital TV integrated terminal in the public area of each village, as well as installation of free satellite TV set-top box receiving systems for 20 families with TV sets. StarTimes was the contractor responsible for implementation. A project commencement ceremony was held on June 25, 2018 and a project completion ceremony was held on June 13, 2019.
