Project narrative

On February 16, 2014, and March 23, 2014, the Chinese Government and the Government of Mauritania signed letters of exchange on Phase 2 of the Nouakchott International Conference Center and Presidential Palace Renovation Project. The Chinese Government reportedly committed RMB 55 million of grant funding for this project, which involved an expansion of the Nouakchott International Conference Center and the Presidential Palace in the capital city of Nouakchott. China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group Co. Ltd was the contractor responsible for implementation. Phase 2 began implementation on May 10, 2015 and ended on June 18, 2016. An official project handover ceremony was held on October 26, 2016 at Mauritania’s Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning, and Territorial Improvement. Phase 1 of this project was also funded by the Chinese Government and it is captured in Record ID#32649.
