On March 14, 2017, China’s Ambassador to The Gambia Zhang Jiming and the Gambian Health and Social Welfare Minister Ceesay signed a protocol agreement on the dispatching of Chinese medical teams to work in The Gambia. Then, on June 2, 2017, the Chinese Government dispatched the first Chinese medical team to the Gambia for a one-year mission. The team consisted of 9 members from Liaoning Province and it was stationed at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital. Liu Guipeng and Xu Yongqing treated 605 patients, 159 patients with diagnosis and treatment of difficult diseases, 119 cases of surgery (8 cases of malignant tumors and complex operations), and more than 100 health services and medical services (Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University). The team's work was finished on June 22, 2018.
