Description
In January 2011, the Chinese Government committed to providing unspecified materials worth 200,000 RMB to the Southern Sudan Referendum Committee. The purpose of this donation was to support the peace process between northern and southern Sudan. It is unclear whether these goods were ever delivered. The referendum started on 9 January 2011 and ended on 15 January 2011. The Chinese sent a 15-member delegation to observe the process. South Sudan officially gained independence in July 2011. The Chinese Government provided a further $500,000 USD cash donation to the Southern Sudan Referendum Committee (see Project #57093).
Additional details
Chinese project title 对苏南方公投工作援助. South Sudan did not officially exist until July 2011 so the Government of Sudan is still coded as the recipient.
