On April 3, 2019, the handover ceremony of emergency humanitarian assistance provided by China to Malawi was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Government of the People’s Republic of China donated US$300,000 (over K220 million) to Malawi, for flood response operations and officially handed over a donation of 6,025 metric tonnes of rice (120,500 bags each weighing 50kgs), through the Ministries of Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Ambassador Liu Hongyang, Malawian Foreign Minister Fabiano, Dausi of the Ministry of Homeland Security, Director general of the Disaster Management Agency, Mr. Molini, Foreign Ministry Secretary Mr. Portero, and officials from other government departments attended. At the direction of President Xi, the Chinese Government has taken immediate measures to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to African countries. China provided a batch of food and financial assistance to the Malawian flood relief operations. China also committed to taking an active part in the reconstruction of Malawi and helping the victims return to their homes at an early date.
