Project narrative

On July 14, 2017, China CAMC Engineering Co Ltd (中工国际工程股份有限公司) signed a commercial contract for the Isiolo-Garissa Electrical Transformation and Transmission Project with Kenya’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. According to multiple sources, the project is being funded through a $134 million loan from the Export-Import Bank of China. The project, which is also known as the Isiolo-Garissa Transmission Line Project with Associated Substations Project, involves the construction of a 220KV, 285-km transmission lines between Garissa and Isiolo and three substations in central and northern Kenya and delivering these transmission lines and substations to Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) upon completion. The contract value is $131,065,700 and the expected period of implementation is 24 months.
