Description
In 2015, the Chinese Government reportedly provided a grant to the Government of Botswana worth P120 million for the Mmopane Primary School Construction Project. This project involves the construction of a primary school in the village of Mmopane (Block 1) within Botswana’s Kweneng District. The school will include an administrative office, 22 classrooms, a library, 3 laboratories, 24 teachers' houses, 6 restroom facilities, a dining hall, 2 security rooms, a water tank, a football pitch, 2 basketball courts, and a bell tower. Longxin Construction Group is the contractor responsible for implementation. On September 10, 2015, the Chinese Government and the Government of Botswana signed a design project design contract. Then, on August 16, 2016, a project implementation agreement was signed. Construction began in June 2018, but an official groundbreaking ceremony did not take place until August 10, 2018. As of March 29, 2019 the school was still under construction. On January 12, the primary school was deemed complete and opened its doors to the first students.
Additional details
The Chinese name for the school is 莫帕尼小学. The expected completion time is January 2020, but the current construction condition is unknown.
