Project narrative

In 2019, the Chinese Government dispatched the 21st Chinese medical team to Niger. The 21st medical team consisted of 37 members working at Niamey General Referral Hospital. The team was organized and selected by the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region sent one of its doctors on the medical team. Nanxishan Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region sent two of its doctor on the medical team.The 21st medical team set off for Niger on March 15, 2019 for a 558-day long mission (for a planned end date of September 23, 2020). During the tour, the 21st medical team visited Chinese enterprises working on the Third Bridge Construction Project (see Record ID#58039), provided consultations for 512 people, including 127 Chinese employees and 385 local employees, and donated 550 boxes of 27 varieties of medicine to the Chinese enterprises implementing the project. Additionally, during their mission, the COVID-19 pandemic emerged; the medical team provided advice and assistance to the Government of Niger in response. The team returned to China on February 13, 2021. The Chinese Government has sent medical teams to Niger since 1976.
