Project narrative

On August 16, 2018, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa held a farewell ceremony for the 32 South African students who were receiving Chinese Government Scholarships to study in China of the 2018 academic year (中国政府奖学金项目). Before this ceremony, the students had participated in three days of pre-departure training from the South African government in Johannesburg. The scholarship recipients included bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students in 17 fields. The scholarship will cover student tuition, accommodations, stipends, and medical aid Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Lin Songtian, Counsellor and Consul General Ni Lingling, South Africa’s Director of the International Department of Higher Education and Training, Gapi, Director of the South African Qualifications Agency, Samuels, South African students attended the ceremony. The scholarship will be provided by the China Scholarship Council, which provides all Chinese Government Scholarships. Since its inception in 2003, the "Chinese Government Scholarship Program" has provided hundreds of South African students with full scholarships to study in China.
