Project narrative

In November 2017, during the 2nd session of the Joint Commission for Economic, Commercial and Technical Cooperation between the Government of Mali and the Chinese Government, Malian Minister of Finance Boubou Cissé signed an agreement with the Chinese Government related to the financing of the "Road to Knowledge" (la Route du Savoir) Project, which will run from Modibo Keita International Airport to the Kabala Campus of Bamako University (with multiple interchanges at the Kalabankoro crossing). The Chinese Government reportedly signaled its interest in providing a loan worth 68 billion francs for the project. Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) will be the contractor responsible for implementation. A foundation stone laying ceremony was originally scheduled to take place in March 2018. However, it does not appear that this ever took place.
