Project narrative

On May 23, 2018, the 18th Medical Team dispatched from Hong Kong by the Chinese Government arrived at the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 18th medical team captain was named by the Chinese Embassy in DRC to be Liu Fu (刘福) and he had met with the 17th medical team captain Wang Junhui (王俊辉) and the Chinese Ambassador to DRC, Wang Tongqing (王同庆) on May 28, 2018 during a handover meeting. The 18th medical team consists of 18 experts from five cities in Hebei Province, including Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Xingtai, Handan and Tangshan, and they will serve at Sino-Congolese Friendship Hospital in N'djili for two years. The team's main task is to conduct medical visits, conduct operations, etc., and provide professional training for local medical staff. The Chinese Government has been sending medical teams to the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1973. However, due to internal turmoil, the Chinese Government stopped sending medical teams from 1997 to 2008. Hebei Province has been responsible for sending the medical teams.
