Project narrative

On 30 January 2013, the Chinese Ambassador and Djibouti Minister of Foreign Affairs signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA #66315) in which China granted $1,437,780 USD for the El Hadj Hassan Gouled Aptidon Stadium Rehabilitation Project (or 吉布提哈桑古莱德国家体育场维修项目 or Projet de réhabilitation intégrale du stade Hassan Gouled). China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic & Technical Cooperation was the contractor responsible for project implementation. Construction began on 15 December 2012 and it was completed on 24 July 2014. The rehabilitated stadium was officially handed over to the authorities on 19 October 2014 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by Djiboutian Prime Minister Kamil Mohamed and China’s Ambassador to Djibouti Fu Huaqiang. Hassan Gouled Stadium was originally constructed between 1986 and 1996 by COMPLANT with funding from the Chinese government.
