Description

On November 27, 2018, China's 23rd medical team, comprised of 15 doctors, arrived to work in Benin for one year. A farewell ceremony for the medical team was held on December 20th, 2019. During the 23rd medical team's service, they had 12,108 outpatient visits, 1,484 surgeries, and 2,146 ward rounds. Additionally, the medical team donated over 1,500 boxes of medicine. The 23rd medical team was involved in an "Internet + Online consultation and inter-operative video consultation" initiative. To this end, the Zhongbei Remote Consultation Center was founded, offering free consultations to more than 2,000 people. On March 21st, 2019, a "Internet + medical health" remote guidance surgery was completed for the first time in the Monono and Kouffo Provincial Central Hospital. On May 6th, 2019, the 23rd medical team set up a medical treatment tent at the Benin-China recruitment fair. The 23rd medical team was stated to have gone to Lokossa to operate on Beninese patients. The team was comprised of experts in both traditional medicine like surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, etc., as well as Chinese medicine like acupuncture, cupping, etc. China has been sending medical teams to Benin every 2 years since January 1978. China originally signed the agreement to send medical teams to Benin in 1976. The Health and Welfare Commission of Ningxia Hui autonomous region (请宁夏卫健委与) is responsible for sending the teams. Over the 41 total years of Chinese medical teams in Benin, there have been over 600 Chinese medical workers, more than 3 million patient visits, 130,000 inpatients, and over 57,000 operations.
