Description
According to the Government of Ethiopia’s Aid Management Platform, the Chinese Government and the Government of Ethiopia signed a grant agreement worth RMB 50 million (ETB 216,114,415) on November 10, 2018 to support the provision of 7,987 metric tons of emergency food aid. Then, on June 16, 2019, China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) made a single ETB 209,694,931 grant disbursement to facilitate the provision of emergency food aid. Six weeks later, on August 2, 2019, the Ethiopian National Disaster Risk Management Committee organized an emergency food handover ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Tan Jian. The donation of 7,987 metric tons of emergency food aid was provided as an emergency response to a drought and food shortage in Ethiopia. It was provided in accordance with an agreement signed by the Chinese Government and the Ethiopian Government at the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing, China on April 27, 2019. Under the terms of that agreement, the Chinese Government agreed to provide RMB 100 million worth of emergency food aid to Ethiopia in 2019.
