Project narrative

In 2007, the Chinese Government provides an RMB 29,808,000 loan to the Government of Gabon for the Gabonese Radio and Television Channel (RTG 1) Building Construction Project. This project involved the construction of the headquarters of Gabonese Radio and Television Channel (RTG 1) — also known as the Georges Rawiri Radio and Television House and the National Radio and Television Center — on Bongo Avenue in the capital city of Libreville. It is a 7-story building with a reinforced concrete frame structure and it is 30 meters high. Beijing Zhongxu Architectural Design Co., Ltd. (北京中旭建筑设计有限责任公司) was the contractor responsible for project design. Shanghai Construction Group [上海建工(集团)总公司] and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) were the contractors responsible for project implementation. Shanghai Construction Group signed a construction contract in July 2004. Construction began on June 8, 2005. The building was officially inaugurated on December 1, 2007 to celebrate Gabonese President Omar Bongo Ondimba’s 40th year in power. However, the project was not yet fully complete. Construction ended on December 2, 2008. The building — Georges Rawiri Radio and Television House — was named after Georges Rawiri, the former president of the Gabonese senate, who died in 2006.
