On July 24, 2015, the officials from the State Oceanic Administration of China met with representatives from Zanzibar's Fisheries Department to attend the opening ceremony of the China-Zanzibar Joint Ocean Research Center (in Chinese: 中国和桑给巴尔联合海洋研究中心). The reseach center is funded by China.
