Description
In 2016, the Chinese Government reportedly signaled interest in issuing a loan for the construction of Jenelata Dam. Then, on May 7, 2018, the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the Ministry of Public Works and People's Housing (PUPR) of Indonesia signed letters of exchange for the design of the Jenelata Dam Construction Project (or 杰纳拉塔水坝工程). According to the Government of Indonesia's List of Planned Priority External Loans 2019, the project was to be funded partially by a $235 million loan from China Eximbank. Then, in June 2022, the Government of Indonesia and China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. signed a $290 million commercial contract for the Jenelata Dam Construction Project. The Government of Indonesia intends to finance the commercial contract with a loan from China Eximbank. It identified the Jenelata Dam Construction Project in its List of Planned Priority External Loans 2022. The contracted dam is 1,525 meters long and 63.8 meters high, in addition to subsidiary facilities. The volume of the reservoir after the dam is completed is expected to reach 285 million cubic meters and should have the capacity to to irrigate 24,400 hectares of soil

1. The Chinese government reportedly expressed interest in providing IDR 4.5 trillion for 4 dam projects (Pelosika Dam, Rokan Kiri Dam, Jenelata Dam, and Riam Kiwa Dam). It was reported in 2016 that the Chinese Government intended to fund $4 billion in assistance to Indonesia through ASEAN in the form of preferential buyer's credit for 11 development projects.
