Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 3, 2018, the Chinese Government signed bilateral cooperation agreements with Zimbabwe in the fields of economy and technology, agriculture, science and technology, and human resources development during President Emmerson Mnangawa's visit to China. Later that month, documents from Zimbabwe's Treasury revealed that the Chinese government granted RMB 80 million to Zimbabwe for rice aid following the presidential visit and that Zimbabwe was processing paperwork related to the transaction. On May 24, 2019 during a visit to Zimbabwe the Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming handed over a consignment of 10,165 tonnes of rice to the Zimbabwean government that was represented by Public Service, Labor and Social Welfare Minister Sekesai Nzenza. The rice donation was made to support Zimbabwean victims of Cyclone Idai.
