Project narrative

On November 9, 2018, the Chinese Government and the Government of Vanuatu signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), which committed RMB 300 million of grant funding for the Container Inspection Equipment Project. The purpose of the project was to acquire and install x-ray scanners to enable Vanuatu’s Custom to conduct non-intrusive inspections of containers for prohibited and restricted goods. The mobile x-ray machine would be at used at the Lapetasi Wharf terminal while the CT scanners would be installed at the Port Vila International Airport. An official equipment handover ceremony took place on June 4, 2020.
