Description
In 2008, China Eximbank reportedly agreed at least in principle to provide loan for the 115kv Vangvieng-Nam Ngum 5-Phonsavan Power Transmission Line Project. The purpose of this project was to construct a 67km 115kv power transmission line from the Nam Ngum 5 hydropower plant to a substation in Phonsavan and a 75km 115kv power transmission line from the Nam Ngum 5 hydropower plant to a substation in Vangvieng (Vang Vieng). According to one official source, the power transmission lines were constructed between 2008 to 2011. However, AidData has not yet identified any sources (other than JICA) that corroborate the provision of a China Eximbank loan, so the project is status-coded as a pledge for the time being.
Additional details
Bank of China issued a $140 million loan for the construction of the Nam Ngum 5 hydropower plant (see Project ID#63470).
