The Roseau-Portsmouth Road Rehabilitation Project is one of the four pillar projects established between Chinese and Dominican government when diplomatic relations were set in 2004. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 26, 2010. This road runs from the capital city, Roseau, in the south to Dominica’s second largest city, Portsmouth, in the north. The road is 45 kilometers long and serves as the artery of the country. The project is one of the largest undertaken by China in the Caribbean region. Project implementer was China Railway 17 Bureau Group (CR17BG). Among the total of EC$100 million (US$ 37 million) grant from China to finance the road rehabilitation project, $8 million went to the construction of New Roseau Bridge, which is a key part of the Roseau-Portsmouth Road Rehabilitation Project. The bridge is located at the mouth of the Roseau River with a span of 70 meters, a width of 10.5 meters and a height of 3.7 meters. The construction of the bridge began on August 30, 2010 and ended on January 20, 2012. The whole project was completed in April, 2012. Transaction amount for this project is not captured as it has already been captured in #39831.
